Year 6 Homepage

Welcome to Year 6 and what a year it is going to be. As teachers, we are aware that children new to the year group have the tests on their minds but it is full of fun too! We have many trips including Chessington, Hasting’s pantomime and Acorn adventure holidays, as well as exciting topics. For example War of the Worlds and The Ancient Greeks.

This term’s topic is World War 2. We will be History detectives and look at the social and emotional impact of the war on different participants. We will be learning about architecture of the period and how to be architects. In English we will show empathy and write in role, after reading “Once” by Morris Gleitzman. At the end of the term, we will become newspaper reporters and learn the skills of the “print room”.

Our other topics are circulation in science, where we will conduct investigations into different circulatory systems. Computing is learning about e-safety and how to use spreadsheets.

We love to encourage the children to read, so ask that you support us in getting them to read at least 3 times a week, and then record their reflections in their reading planners as well as the English homework. If you have any concerns please contact us and we look forward to working together with you to help the children achieve their full potential.
