Message from Year 1
Dear Year 1 Parents and Carers,
We understand this is a difficult and challenging time for everyone. In order to keep your child’s learning and development on track, we have put together a range of different resources and tasks based on the Year 1 curriculum. These are all activities that we hope will be suitable for you to complete at home as well as mirroring what we do in the classroom. Below you will find some ideas for each area; we have also provided a work book for each child.
Please check the website for two weeks’ worth of writing activities that are based on the book ‘Tiddler’ by Julia Donaldson. This can be found on YouTube if you cannot access the book. Our expectation is that each task should be completed in 20-30 minute slots. Whilst we encourage the first part of the session to be supported by an adult, the activity should be completed by the child as independently as possible. Discuss the Challenges with your child and pick a challenge that is most suitable.
Reading and Phonics
Below are websites that will give you access to a range of resource suitable for reading. We expect children to be accessing these websites or reading books from home for 20 minutes each day.
- - https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/ - You should be able to access all areas of the website during this time. Most children will access Phase 3, 4 and 5 by playing ‘Obb and Bob’, Some children may wish to challenge themselves and play ‘Acorn adventures’
- https://www.phonicsplaycomics.co.uk/comics.html - On this website you will find comics for the children to enjoy. Most children will be able to access the comics that are at a Phase 5 level.
- https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page - You will need to register to use this website. You can currently do this for free which will allow you access many e-books. Please begin at ages 5-6, if your child finds this stage either too hard or too easy please explore the website and find a book that is more suitable.
We are sending home a variety of ‘Numicon’ Work Books. Please work through these with your child. As well as this we have sent home log-in details for My Maths. We have assigned tasks for children to complete during this time and you are able view these to see how your child is getting on. Please encourage them to complete these tasks as independently as possible. We recommend your child completes 20-30 minutes of maths tasks each day.
Other Curriculum activities
You will be able to find a grid of other curriculum activities including PE, Geography and History, Science and Art on our website. We recommend you complete at least one of these each day.
Thank you for your co-operation, again we realise that this is a worrying time for everybody. Please do not hesitate to contact us via email during this time with any questions regarding your child’s learning.
The Year 1 Team.
