This term our topic is Benin, we will be using this as an inspiration for our learning across the curriculum. In English this term we will be writing a range of genres using our topic as a stimulus. We will also be writing a non-chronological report based on an imaginary animal generated in our science topic. Also, we will produce a balanced argument and, as a class, have a debate on a relevant topic.
Our focus this term in science will be classification. The children will learn about the history of the classification system and how it helps scientific understanding of eco systems. The skills learnt in these lessons will be applied to classify a range of animals during the term.
In ICT we will be developing the children’s understanding of multi -media presentations. The children will learn to hyperlink, add animation and sound clips to presentations. This will culminate in the children creating their own presentation about Britain’s National Parks.
In History, the children will be learning about the ancient empire of Benin, in western Africa. They will learn how it rose from a small town to a major power through trade. The children will learn about the ruling “Obas” and how the society develop. The art of Benin will inspire their Art this term.
In Art, the children will study the sculptures of Benin and produce their own version.
You can support your child at home by reading with them at least four times weekly, practising any spellings that are sent home and helping them to complete any other tasks set.
