Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome to all our new Year 6 pupils - we look forward to an enjoyable and successful year!

Thank you for all of your work and support that you have done over lockdown with your children. We are delighted to welcome them into Year 6.

This term there will be a focus on PSHE, wellbeing and mindfulness, as well as English, Maths, reading and PE.  Our topic is “Groovy Greeks”, which is our History theme for the term.

Year 6 will be using “Once” as the stimulus for writing this term.  A WW2 novel, written from the perspective of a 10 year-old-boy in the search for his parents. This will be used to generate texts across a range of genres.

Our focus this term in science will be circulation.  The children will learn about the human circulation system.  They will then move on to design their own experiments to study how exercise effects circulation.

In ICT, we will be developing the children’s understanding of spreadsheets.  This work will culminate in the children designing their own spreadsheet to budget for a trip.

You can support your child at home by reading with them at least four times weekly, practising any spellings that are sent home and helping them to complete any other tasks set, including their writing task.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Many thanks,

Mrs Goodsell, Mr Ward and Miss Young
