Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

Welcome to all our new Year 5 pupils - we look forward to an enjoyable and successful year!

Thank you for all of your work and support that you have done over lockdown with your children.

At the beginning of this term, there will be a focus on PSHE, wellbeing and mindfulness, as well as English, Maths, Reading, RE and PE.

Our Term 1 topic is ‘Climb Every Mountain’. Later in the term, we will be looking at the geography of mountains and linking it with Art and Music.

In Maths, we will begin with a focus on place value and then move on to addition and subtraction methods as well as practising focused times tables. This will be followed by a block on statistics.

In English lessons this term, we will be starting with writing descriptions and stories based on our class text, ‘Fly, Eagle, Fly!’ Later in the term, we will be writing letters home from a mountaineer’s perspective.

Our focus this term, in Science, will mainly revolve around forces and their place in the environment.

You can support your child at home by reading with them at least four times weekly, encouraging them to complete the weekly writing task in reading journals, and helping them to practise any spellings and other tasks set.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

PE is on a Wednesday afternoon for all three classes.

Many thanks,

Miss Knight, Mr Morton and Mrs Walker
